Air Filters for HVAC Systems
What with your hectic schedule, you probably don’t pay much attention to the little vent plugging away in your wall. But while you go about your life, your air filtration system is busy sifting pollutants, animal dander, pollen, and dust out of the air you breathe. When your air filters are never changed, it can negatively impact your family, your HVAC system, and your utility bills. To ensure that this small but important task doesn’t fall by the wayside during your everyday hustle and bustle, we highly recommend scheduling regular air filter maintenance throughout the year.
What happens if I don’t change my air filter?
If you have forgotten to change your air filters right up until this moment, don’t panic. A dirty air filter is not a crisis, as long as it is addressed immediately. Consequences of not changing your air filter include:
- Dirty air ducts. If your filter is dirty, it can no longer clean your air, and will instead pump your home full of dust and allergens.
- Physical symptoms like headaches, fatigue, chest tightness, and sneezing.
- Reduced air flow. Air conditioning units are designed to operate with a certain amount of internal air flow. If that amount isn’t being met, the unit may malfunction or fail.
- Cooling inefficiency. When dirt and pollutants accumulate on an air conditioner’s cooling coils, frost builds up inside the system. This makes it more difficult for the unit to cool your house and drives up your energy bill.
Simply changing your air filter on a regular basis will reduce your energy costs and keep your family’s lungs clean and healthy all year long.
